Colors in a website varies in range and can help you create the look and feel you’re looking at using for your web site.When we work with color in web site html template design we restrict this to using a color from the 256 web colors pallet.

By working with the 256 web color pallet you’re making sure that your webpage color will work exactly the way you want it in all of the web browsers.

256 Color Pallet in Adobe Photoshop

The above screen shot image is an example of the color pallet Adobe Photoshop/Elements has available in its software program in which you can choose you will end up using. As you can see the only web colors tick box is selected.

If the background of the image needs to blend with the background of a table or webpage color-scheme then choose the image background from one of the 256 web colors and erase the background of the image so it blends in.

Most web site designing software will have this color pallet available along with the million plus color-pallet found in software programs like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop.

So when choosing stay safe by working with the standard 256 color pallet.

Color Meanings

Red the color that represents love, desire and passion and can be associated with danger, energy and strength.

Blue is the cool color of colors. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, faith, intelligence and truth.

Green is the calming color of colors and is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. The darker shade of green is also commonly associated with money.

Black is associated with Power, death, elegance and mystery

Purple is known as a royal color. Purple is highly associated with creativity and spontaneity and it can effect people by offering a sense of spirituality and calm.

White is associated with peace, purity and truth.

When building a web site stick with simple colors. If your web site has a specific them for example:

  • A spiritual web site you would use whites and purples
  • For a corporate web site you would use a mix of black and blue
  • If you’re selling products that calm people you would use greens
  • If you had a product that many people were passionate about yo can
    use the color red.

Don’t forget to also have fun with your colors when using color in a website and make sure the color scheme works well together.
