Domain Name Registration What to Avoid

Domain name registration is a process you should not take lightly. You need to make sure that you order the right domain name when you’re ready to make your website.

There are a few things you should avoid.

Firstly be careful you do not in fringe in Trademark laws by adding a Trademark name in part to your own domain name. There are companies now employing Lawyers to track down people infringing on there Trademarks and if you do this you just might have an e-mail sent by a Companies Lawyer.

Avoid .INFO Domain names- I personally do not recommend the.INFO domain because they are used a fair bit by spammers. These are used by spammers because they can be purchased cheaply and the reason you
should not use these domains is because spam filters block these domains.

Make sure that your domain name contains your main keyword. when you are in the process of domain name
registration
. I have found that a search engine like live.com will list your website on the basis of what content you have on your domain. This is not fiction but fact and one I tested with a new website.

When you’re going to order your domain name consider who you will market your website to. Will you be relying on pay per click advertising and search engines?

If the answer is yes its ok to use dashes in domain names,

If you’re going to use a TV or Radio marketing campaign then its important to keep your domain name short without dashes so you can avoid confusion.

When you order your domain and you’re ready to make your web site make sure if there are any .net and .org domains order these so you have all 3 (.com, .net and .org).

Make sure that your contact e-mail for your domain name is upto date so you’re able to receive e-mail notification when your domain is about
